Several spells of showers may occur today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, according to an announcement by the Department of Meteorology.
The latest weather advisory notes that several spells of showers can also be expected in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts. Furthermore, the department states that showers or thundershowers could develop at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 2:00 p.m.
In addition to the rainy conditions, fairly strong winds blowing gusting between 30 and 40 kilometres per hour are expected at times over several parts of the island.
The Department of Meteorology states that these strong winds could affect the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North Central, North Western, and Southern provinces, as well as the Trincomalee district.
