Horana welcomes world champion Rumesh Tharanga

A special ceremony to welcome Sri Lankan javelin champion Rumesh Tharanga, who won three gold medals and one silver medal after participating in four of the world's leading sports tournaments, took place grandly today (22) in Horana town.

The talented athlete, a resident of the Haltota area, is the son of veteran athlete Thushara Premakeerthi.

Arrangements were made to escort Rumesh Tharanga, who returned to the motherland after bringing numerous victories to the country, in a spectacular vehicular procession from the Bandaragama, Gelanigama expressway entrance along the Panadura - Ratnapura road to Horana town.

Horana Urban Council Chairman Anil Indika Premasiri, Secretary Achini Jayanthi, Horana Headquarters Police Inspector Ranga Perera, Sub-Inspector Wimal Ananda, and Horana United Sports Club President Y. Lalith, along with other officials and a large crowd including the athlete's parents, attended this special welcoming ceremony.
