Grama Niladharis across the country have commenced trade union action today to protest against the government's failure to provide their approved fuel allowance.
The Grama Niladhari Trade Union Alliance announced that members will restrict their field duties as part of the agitation.
Under the union action, officers will abstain from attending divisional secretariats on Mondays and boycott all ministry-called meetings, except for monthly divisional day sessions.
The alliance further decided to withdraw from supporting any other government programmes implemented at the local level.
