Exterminators PLC and Sentario UK Ltd. launched the MACCP X Mosquito Intelligence Platform, an AI-driven system designed to improve disease surveillance, risk mapping, and predictive mosquito management across Sri Lanka.
This platform updates the MACCP 2000 framework introduced in 2018. It combines artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and environmental monitoring to detect mosquito and disease threats at an earlier stage. Operating under an AI for Social Good initiative, the system covers all districts in the country, providing data-driven insights to public health authorities and professional pest managers. Key features include disease surveillance, geographic risk mapping, predictive analytics, and decision support for targeted management.
Global data from the World Health Organisation indicates that mosquito-borne diseases affect over 700 million people annually, leading to more than 700,000 deaths. Factors such as climate change, rapid urbanisation, and shifting weather patterns continue to heighten these risks, making proactive prevention essential.
Denham Marlon Ferreira, the founder and managing director behind the project, noted that prevention offers more value than reactive measures. The platform aims to blend field expertise with AI to strengthen decision-making and protect communities. MACCP X adheres to responsible AI principles, including transparency and human oversight, and serves to assist professionals rather than replace human judgement. Ferreira developed this system following over thirty years of industry experience and academic training in AI and strategy at institutions including the University of Oxford, Harvard University, and the National University of Singapore.
