A senior assistant secretary at the Presidential Secretariat was arrested by the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau on charges of fraudulently preparing a forged passport under another person's name for an organised criminal to flee the country.
The Police Media Division issued a statement noting that a team of officers from the Homicide and Organised Crime Investigation Division of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau made the arrest last afternoon (26).
The arrested individual is a 41-year-old resident of the Kandy area.
The statement issued by the Police Media Division mentions that he currently serves as a senior assistant secretary in the Parliament and Cabinet Division of the Presidential Secretariat.
Investigations conducted so far reveal that the suspect committed this large-scale crime during the period when he served as deputy controller of the Overseas Missions Division of the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
The forged passport was prepared for the organised criminal to flee the country during that period.
