Avoid using plastic and polythene at dansals - PHIs

A large number of dansals were registered across the island in view of the Poson Poya day, according to the acting president of the Public Health Inspectors Association of Sri Lanka, Upul Rohana.

Rohana stated that a higher number of dansals registered this time compared to Vesak, with the highest number of registrations reported from the North Central Province.

He emphasised the importance of avoiding plastic and polythene when distribution takes place.

Special inspections will focus on those serving hot drinks and food in plastic containers. He pointed out that storing hot and cold food in polythene poses severe health risks. Meanwhile, he warned that using polythene and plastic for dansals could directly impact the current dengue epidemic.

Upul Rohana stated:

"We observed on previous occasions that cups used to serve drinks, especially at coffee and beverage dansals, are discarded carelessly everywhere. Therefore, we request special attention to this matter. There is a risk of dengue mosquitoes breeding in these scattered containers."
