A mother who went accompanied by her daughter to look for her son, who was delayed in returning home after going fishing, died after falling into a well dug near a tank, the Police Media Division stated.
The 10-year-old daughter who went with the deceased also went missing after drowning, the police mentioned.
The mishap occurred last night (28) near the Thubara tank in Tennakoonpura within the Galgamuwa police division, the police said.
A 45-year-old woman residing in the Thalakiriyagama area died after drowning in this manner. Her 10-year-old daughter went missing after drowning.
Police investigations revealed that the deceased mother's male child went to the Thubara tank for fishing.
Due to the delay in his return home, the deceased went towards the tank accompanied by her daughter to look into his whereabouts, and while going in that manner, this mishap occurred as both of them fell into a cultivation well dug near the Thubara tank.
A special operation is currently underway to find the 10-year-old girl who remains missing after drowning, and officers of the Galgamuwa Police Station are conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
