It is shameful to refer to military medals as 'pieces of iron': Namal Rajapaksa

"They are trivialising the victories that war heroes achieved by sacrificing their lives. The war hero's medal, the war hero's emblem, the war hero's pride, the very medal that is meant to be shown with pride to their children, grandsons, and granddaughters, what do they call it? They call it a 'piece of iron.' Shameful! The war heroes must be wondering if this is the kind of country they are living in," stated Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and Member of Parliament, Namal Rajapaksa.

He made these remarks while addressing a public gathering held in Kotapola, Matara, yesterday(4).

Speaking further at the event, Namal Rajapaksa stated:
"We see the former Navy Commander being arrested. Intelligence chiefs are being imprisoned. What is the government’s plan?" he pointed out.

"On one hand, the Maha Sangha is being insulted. While religious leaders are being criticised, and the venerable Maha Sangha and the Sambuddha Sasana are being systematically targeted and disrespected within the government's political machinery and the JVP’s political ideology," alleged Namal.

He pointed out that solutions for the issues facing farmers, graduates, and the rising cost of living remain elusive under the current administration. Furthermore, he emphasised that the government struggles to maximize the benefits of large-scale infrastructure projects initiated by previous regimes.

"The government must remember that insulting war heroes, disrespecting the Maha Sangha, or trying to exact political vengeance on us will not solve the people's problems," he emphasised.

He urged the public to unite behind a political movement that would promote sustainable development and secure a better future for the children of the village parent.
