Court to decide Prasanna Ranatunga's travel ban on July 14

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered today (10) that the decision on the request made to temporarily relax the travel ban imposed on former minister Prasanna Ranatunga, who was presented to court over a corruption allegation, will be delivered on July 14.

The lawyer appearing for the suspect in court regarding the incident stated that the travel ban against the suspect should be temporarily lifted during the period from July 13 to August 2.

The Magistrate stated that the order will be delivered after considering whether or not there is an objection from the Bribery Commission regarding the matter.

Accordingly, court ordered the case to be called again on July 14.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption previously arrested over an incident where he allegedly caused a loss of 4,750,828.72 rupees to the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation by securing an undue advantage for a brokerage company when obtaining medical insurance coverage from the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation for employees of four institutions, including the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority under the Ministry of Tourism. The court later released him on bail.
