Paddy purchasing for Yala season begins today

Paddy purchasing for this Yala season begins today (13) in the Ampara district.

The Ampara District Secretary mentioned that the Uhana - Palamkandura government paddy store is prepared to purchase paddy accordingly.

Farmers continuously state that they are helpless because the government did not provide a price sufficient for the production cost of a kilogram of paddy as promised, and because they still have to store the paddy harvested in the previous Maha season inside their homes without a proper price.

However, against such a background, the paddy purchasing activities for this Yala season commence today from the Ampara - Uhana area.

The Paddy Marketing Board mentioned that plans are in place to purchase paddy at 143 locations.

Meanwhile, farmers point out that there is no preparation to purchase paddy at the other government paddy stores, including Kohombana and Gonagolla in the Ampara - Uhana area.
