Two more prison officers die from Negombo prison clash injuries

The death toll from the clash between two groups of inmates at the Negombo Prison rose to 31.

This followed the deaths of two more prison officers who were undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the Colombo National Hospital after sustaining injuries in the clash.

Police stated that one officer died last night (13) while the other officer died early this morning (14).

The deceased officers were identified as a 39-year-old resident of Ambalangoda and a 25-year-old resident of Lunugamvehera.

Accordingly, the number of prison officers who died in the incident rose to 10.

Among the deceased officers was Prison Police Special Intelligence Unit Officer P.D. Sandika Lashan Gunawardena.

His seven-year-old young son suffers from a heart disease, and the child's mother recently told Hiru News that a large sum of money is required to save the child's life.

She stated that her husband was her strength in that effort.
