UN Security Council votes to continue monitoring Houthi attacks in Red Sea

The UN Security Council has adopted a resolution to extend the UN monitoring of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea for six additional months.

Thirteen countries voted in support of the measure, which will see the UN secretary-general deliver monthly reports to the council.

China and Russia abstained.

The Yemeni group began attacking ships in the Red Sea in late 2023, claiming it was targeting vessels linked to Israel in response to its genocidal war on Gaza.
