A joint tourism package is set to be introduced by Sri Lanka and Vietnam following the launch of direct flights between Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism announced.
In a statement issued after VietJet Air commenced its inaugural direct flight on July 18, the Ministry stated that the initiative would focus on promoting religious tourism and expanding cultural, health, and adventure tourism based on the long-standing cultural and religious ties between the two countries.
VietJet Air's entry into the Sri Lankan market was welcomed by Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath, who wished the airline success in its operations.
He said the commencement of direct flights was a successful outcome of discussions held between the leaders of Sri Lanka and Vietnam last year.
Flights between Colombo and Ho Chi Minh City are now operated by VietJet Air every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
The ministry noted that Ho Chi Minh City serves as a major hub for VietJet, providing Sri Lankan travellers with convenient onward connections to other cities in Vietnam, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia, and several other international destinations.
