Balangoda Police recovered the body of a 17-year-old girl from a quarry in the Kajuwatta area of Mahawalatenna yesterday.
Police located the body following information received by officers.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of the area.
The victim's father had earlier lodged a complaint with Balangoda Police stating that she had been missing from home since the 23rd.
The body was discovered while investigations into her disappearance were underway.
Police stated that it has not yet been determined whether the death resulted from a criminal act, drowning, or another cause.
The body has been placed at the Balangoda Base Hospital, where the post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted today.
