Mahara prison inmates transferred to other prisons

Due to the unrest that broke out at Mahara Prison, a group of inmates currently held there are being transferred to other prisons, The Prisons Department said.

The department stated that around 20 inmates were transferred to Boossa Prison this morning (02).

Police also stated that steps are being taken to transfer a group of inmates from Mahara Prison to Badulla, Vavuniya and Welikada prisons as well.
