Three spill gates of Upper Kotmale Reservoir open automatically

Three spill gates of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir opened automatically early this morning (03) due to heavy rainfall continuing to fall on its catchment areas, according to engineers in charge of the reservoir.

Engineers stated that the remaining spill gates of the reservoir could also open automatically if rain continues to fall on the catchment areas.

Disaster Management Center advised residents living on both sides of the Kotmale Oya below the reservoir dam to remain strictly vigilant and safe regarding the matter.
