Yemeni armed forces say they repelled Houthi attack on Mocha

Yemen’s government armed forces said they “thwarted a treacherous terrorist attack by the Houthi militia,” hours after the Iran-backed militant group claimed it carried out an attack on Saudi forces in the Yemeni city of Mocha.

Forces intercepted an “explosive-laden drone boat” targeting the commercial port of Mocha, on the Red Sea, the government said.

The Houthis previously claimed they used “a large number of ballistic missiles and drones” in their attack on Mocha.

The government forces also said that the Houthis “launched an intense and indiscriminate missile bombardment of densely populated residential areas in Mocha,” and that several missiles fell in the vicinity of the a building belonging to a local television channel and near an Immigration and Passports Authority building.

It is not clear if both sides were referencing the same attack or whether there were two separate attempted strikes on Mocha.
