Another suspect was named in connection with the deaths of 32 individuals in the Negombo prison clash. The suspect was named as the 32nd suspect in the case and was produced before the court today (11).
The Criminal Investigation Department sought permission from the court to name another suspect in connection with the deaths of 32 individuals in the Negombo prison clash.
According to CID information the suspect was inside the prison at the time of the incident and later went home on bail. The officers have told the court that the suspect went into hiding and was arrested following investigations.
Negombo Additional Magistrate Subhani Abeysekera ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody until August 21 to be produced for an identification parade.
Accordingly, 62 suspects have been named in connection with the case so far, and 38 individuals were produced before the court on August 7.
The names of the suspects were not presented to the open court due to security reasons, and the list of names and the B report were presented by the Criminal Investigation Department in the Magistrate's official chambers.
Accordingly, all 62 inmates arrested and named as suspects in connection with the incident are scheduled to be produced before the court on August 21.
Ten prison officers and 22 inmates lost their lives while over 100 others sustained injuries in a clash that broke out between two groups of inmates at the Negombo prison on July 5 and 6.
The relevant case was called before the Negombo Magistrate's Court today (11).
