Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam has resigned from his position with effect from tomorrow (18).
In a letter addressed to the Ministry, Hewawasam has indicated that he is resigning due to personal commitments.
However, industry sources said a misunderstanding over the proposed separation of responsibilities between the SLTDA and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), which he has been heading, was also a reason for his resignation.
Hewawasam, an experienced aviation and travel industry professional, was appointed Chairman of both the SLTDA and SLTPB in October 2024 with the change of government.
He succeeded Chalaka Gajabahu, who had headed the SLTDA.
Hewawasam has held senior positions in the aviation and travel sectors and brought extensive industry experience to the leadership of the two tourism institutions.
