Special-needs students to receive Rs. 5,000 monthly allowance

Cabinet has granted approval to provide a monthly allowance of 5,000 rupees for students with special educational needs from low-income families.

Applications were called from schools islandwide for this programme, which is being implemented according to the 2026 budget proposals, and 5,530 students qualified.

Cabinet approval was granted for the proposal presented by the Prime Minister, in her capacity as the Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.
