Samagi Jana Balawegaya files petition in Supreme Court against 22nd Constitutional Amendment

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has acted today (18) to challenge before the court the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution presented to Parliament today by the government led by the current President.

Accordingly, this case was filed before the Supreme Court today under case number SC/SD/31/2026.

It is stated that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya has focused its attention on the contents of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution and has approached the Supreme Court in this manner to obtain the court's opinion regarding its constitutionality and existing issues.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya points out that any amendment made to the Constitution must be deeply considered regarding the impacts it could have on the country's democratic structure, separation of powers, and the rights of the people.
