Navy commends local community and police for Dvora rescue

The Navy has taken steps to appreciate 14 local civilians who acted to safely rescue the lives of 11 Navy personnel aboard the Sri Lanka Navy's P 4447 Fast Attack Craft, which met with an accident off the Angulana Alapatha coast.

During the accident that occurred on the 15th amid rough sea conditions, this group had acted to save the lives of the naval personnel by intervening immediately, even at the risk of their own lives.

Appreciating their noble humanitarian gesture, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Damien Fernando presented letters of commendation to the relevant civilians today (18) at the Western Naval Command Headquarters.

Commander of the Western Naval Area Rear Admiral Channa Kumara and a group of senior naval officers were also present on the occasion.
