An inspector and a constable attached to the Sainthamaruthu police station were remanded until the 28th after being produced before the Kalmunai Magistrate's Court, following their arrest for allegedly soliciting a bribe of 20,000 rupees from a narcotics suspect.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested the officers recently at the Periyanilaweli police station and in front of the Kalmunakodi Zahira College.
Investigators found that the officers took the bribe in exchange for failing to report the full quantity of crystal methamphetamine seized from the suspect to the court, subjecting him to only a minor penalty, and allowing him to operate without future interference.
