President, Prime Minister, and Opposition Leader issue condolence messages for late Dr. Nanda Malini

Sri Lankan society was deeply shocked by the demise of the supreme singer Dr. Nanda Malini, a true Sri Lankan voice who turned her singing talent into a call for social justice and fairness and inspired a generation to think about a new world, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says in his condolence message.

He states that having marked her unique identity in the country's music field since childhood, instead of marking her life merely as a singer, she was an exemplary activist who risked her life by the 1980s to lift Sri Lankan society out of the wicked socio-political mud hole it was submerged in.

The President says that not stopping there, she was positioned in the deepest place of the hearts of the progressive Sri Lankan people and protected her principled musical vocal role until her death.

The President states that he extends his sympathetic condolences to all family members, relatives, friends, fellow artists, and millions of fans who were grieved by the demise of Nanda Malini.

The President also prays that Dr. Nanda Malini, who was humanistically shaped within Sri Lankan socio-culture as free, great, and awakening hearts with joy, attains the supreme bliss of Nibbana.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, issuing a condolence message, states:

The news of the demise of veteran musician Dr. Nanda Malini, who was venerated as the peerless golden voice of the Sri Lankan music field and enriched the cultural and social fields of this country with her unique singing personality for nearly eight decades, caused deep shock and grief.

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya says that as a loving fan who was nourished by Nanda Malini's sweet singing voice and passed various milestones of life with those songs, her departure feels not merely as something to be expressed in words, but as the parting of a familiar motherly voice strongly bound with past memories close to our lives, which gave comfort in happiness as well as in pain.

"I pay my highest tribute to Dr. Nanda Malini, who was a voice to the immeasurable memories of our lives and left an undying mark on Sri Lankan song art, and pray for her eternal Nibbana bliss! I extend my deepest grief to all family members, including her two loving daughters, and to the millions of people who loved her singing voice," says the Prime Minister.

Furthermore, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, issuing a condolence message, says:

Deep grief and sadness were felt upon hearing the news of the demise of veteran singer Dr. Nanda Malini, who placed a unique mark within the Sri Lankan music and cultural field and energised the hearts of the people with her cherished singing style for decades.

"Nanda Malini is undoubtedly a unique artist who represented an era in the musical history of Sri Lanka. The soulful expression, pronunciation of notes, and enjoyment within her singing style marked a unique personal sign, just as she became a unique signature in overall music.

What is lost to us today are her unique creations, her artistic heritage, and the memories she deposited in our hearts. Protecting that heritage and carrying it to future generations is a challenging responsibility belonging to us. Sorrowful Nanda Malini will remain eternally remembered as a bright star that shone in the Sri Lankan artistic sky," he states.

He says he extends his condolences to all grieving family relatives, friends, artists, and all Sri Lankan people who loved her music.
