Dr. Nanda Malini bids farewell to the nation

Dr. Nanda Malini, the veteran singer who comforted the hearts of people with her incomparable voice and blended the reality of life into song, bid farewell to the nation today (22).

Her final rites were performed at the Borella General Cemetery amidst the deep sighs of sorrow from millions of Sri Lankans.

This afternoon, what merged into the atmosphere above the Borella General Cemetery crematorium was the echo of glory of a courageous mother who stood up for the oppression and pain of the general society, bringing comfort and strength to those people through her voice.

Religious rites were performed this morning for Dr. Nanda Malini, who leaves her immortal voice behind to the society of this country as she bids farewell to Mother Lanka.

Thereafter, at around 3:30 p.m., the special motorcade carrying the remains of Dr. Nanda Malini commenced from her residence located in Nawala towards the Borella General Cemetery.

Realising through her creations that song is a powerful expression of social awakening as well as human emotions, Dr. Nanda Malini, who raised the glorious echo of the nation, had expressed a final wish that her final rites be conducted in a very simple manner.

Nanda Malini, who deposited love, along with its sorrow and grief, into the depths of the heart through the ears of fans with her soul-touching voice, undoubtedly remains treasured in the hearts of generations of fans who loved her.

Even though she departed after bidding farewell to Mother Lanka in this manner today, the final breath of Nanda Malini will echo eternally, blending with song literature as the heartbeat of the people of this country.
