A young girl died and two others were hospitalized with serious injuries following a road mishap near the Walpola railway station on the Ragama–Walpola road yesterday (22) morning, Ragama Police say.
A lorry travelling towards Walpola collided with an oncoming car and another lorry after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The lorry then collided with a woman and her two children who were walking on the roadside.
The two children and the woman who sustained serious injuries in the collision were admitted to the Ragama Hospital, where the female child died while receiving treatment.
The deceased is an eight-year-old girl residing in the Ragama area.
Police arrested the lorry drivers involved in the collision, and Ragama Police are conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
