United War Veterans Association Convenor Asela Dharmasiri was remanded until the day after tomorrow (25) by the Ampara Additional Magistrate over allegedly defaming the Grama Niladhari of the W25/A division in Panthalgama, Ampara online.
Damana Police informed the court that the suspect was arrested and investigated following a complaint lodged by the Panthalgama W25/A division Grama Niladhari on the 11th regarding this incident.
It is reported that the individual concerned did not reside at the permanent residence address included in the electoral register for over 10 years.
Due to issues arising during normal official duties, the complaining officer informed the Election Commissioner proposing that it is suitable to remove this individual's name from the electoral register during the revision of the electoral register.
Based on a misunderstanding created that he was removed from the electoral register as a result, the suspect posted articles online defaming the Grama Niladhari on several occasions and hurled vulgar abuse at her.
Later, the Grama Niladhari informed the Officer-in-Charge of the Ampara Division Women's Bureau, Chief Inspector Dayani Gamage, regarding the faced incident, and lodged a complaint at the Damana Police Station on her instructions.
According to investigations conducted regarding this, the suspect was arrested by Damana Police for committing an offence under Section 345 of the Penal Code.
