Fairly heavy showers expected in several areas

Showers can occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.

According to the Department of Meteorology fairly heavy showers above 75 millimetres can occur in some places.

It also notes that a few showers may occur in Anuradhapura, Matale, and Hambantota districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Ampara, Monaragala, and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.

Mainly dry weather prevails in the rest of the island.

Fairly strong winds of about 40 to 50 kilometres per hour can occur at times over the western slopes of the central hills, in Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, and in Trincomalee, Monaragala, Hambantota, and Matale districts, and the department kindly requests the public to take necessary steps to minimise damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thundershowers.
