New US envoy aims to deepen Sri Lanka-US relations

U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Eric Meyer formally commenced his ambassadorial tenure on August 25 after presenting his credentials to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.


Following the ceremony, Ambassador Meyer said he looked forward to further strengthening the U.S. Sri Lanka relationship, unlocking new economic opportunities, deepening security cooperation and advancing a free, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific.


“The United States is proud to call Sri Lanka a friend in a partnership that has spanned more than 78 years,” he said.


Ambassador Meyer arrived in Colombo on the evening of August 22 to assume duties as the 29th United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka.


Before his appointment to Sri Lanka, he served as Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Mission to Norway and as Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.
