“Kadawatha-Mirigama expressway section takes 2 more years to complete”

Construction of the much-awaited and long-overdue Kadawatha-Mirigama section of the Central Expressway will be completed by May 2028, Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Ratnayake told Parliament today.

The Minister said the section would be fully completed and ready for use by May 2028.

He also said the new section from Pothuhera to Rambukkana, extending towards Kandy, is scheduled to be completed and opened by April 2027.

Ratnayake further disclosed that plans were underway to extend the Katunayake Expressway to Chilaw, with the proposed extension ending near Deduru Oya.

“The President has instructed that a feasibility study be conducted in this regard,” he said.

In addition, plans are underway to develop an expressway network originating from Anuradhapura, with expressways linking the city to Vavuniya and Dambulla.
