A suspect has been arrested in possession of a foreign-manufactured 12-bore firearm, a live hand grenade, and six live BMG-type cartridges in the Kuliyapitiya area.
According to the police, the arrest was made by officers from the Organised Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department following a raid conducted yesterday (12). Acting on information received, CID officers searched a house in the Walakumburamulla area in Kadanegedara, where the illegal weapons and ammunition were recovered.
The arrested suspect has been identified as a 40-year-old resident of Walakumburamulla, Kuliyapitiya. The Criminal Investigation Department is conducting further investigations into the matter.
