An office assistant attached to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court was arrested by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly requesting and accepting a Rs. 500 bribe to provide a copy of a court judgment.
The arrest followed an investigation launched after information was received by the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau.
The suspect had allegedly requested the bribe on June 30 in exchange for providing a copy of a judgment relating to a financial dispute that had been settled before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Based on the information received, CIABOC officers arrested the suspect at around 3.35 p.m. yesterday (16) within the premises of the Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, while CIABOC continues its investigations into the incident.
