Immigration officer arrested for assisting an organized criminal

An Assistant Controller of the Department of Immigration and Emigration was arrested yesterday (17) at the department for aiding and abetting the preparation of an irregular passport for an organized criminal.

Officers from the Special Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department made the arrest.

The suspect is a 42-year-old resident of Gampaha.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Special Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department.
