Stage two of construction of the central expressway is scheduled to commence this morning.
The construction is taking place in Kudagammana on Alawwa- Giriulla main road.
Nearly 138 billion rupees has been invested into stage 2 of construction which would have the expressway extending from Meerigama to Kurunegala, a total distance of 39.29 kms.
With the additional 10 kms of roadway of the entrance terminal, the total stretch from Ambeypussa is 49.02kms, with 4 lanes, which will be 3.6m wide.
The width of the road is 23 meters and is inclusive of 5 interchanges.
The interchanges are to be established in Meerigama, Nakalagamuwa, Malpitiya, Pothuhera and Kurunegala.
Stage two has been projected to be completed by mid 2019.
The construction is to be initiated today under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
