SLINTEC RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATION, BOOSTING SRI LANKA'S FOOD EXPORTS

The Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) has achieved a significant milestone with its Advanced Analytical Services Laboratory receiving ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB).

This accreditation, which is internationally recognized, confirms the laboratory's competence to perform crucial food safety tests for both local and international markets.

According to SLINTEC's Interim CEO, Prof. Saman Seneweera, this accreditation allows the institute to provide trusted and timely testing services, such as:

• Aflatoxin testing

• Phthalate detection

• Nutritional analysis for front-of-pack labeling

These tests are critical for agri-food producers to comply with strict food safety and regulatory standards in export markets like the European Union, the United States, and the Middle East.

Prof. Seneweera noted that this accreditation will enable Sri Lankan food producers to meet international requirements without the delays and high costs often associated with sending samples abroad.

The initiative was supported by the European Union-funded BESPA-FOOD (Best Standardized Practices for Agri-Food) project, which is implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

SLINTEC views this as a strategic step to strengthen the country's export ambitions, as it provides a practical tool for competitiveness.

With the new accreditation, the institute is positioned to support manufacturers, exporters, and entrepreneurs from product development to regulatory clearance, helping to ensure that Sri Lankan products can compete confidently on the global stage.
