Chandi Raj Dhakal, President of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI), met Wang Yubo, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and Governor of Yunnan Province, during a banquet dinner hosted in honor of the President of SAARC CCI and distinguished dignitaries from South Asia and beyond in Kunming.
The high-level reception brought together prominent government leaders, ministers, parliamentarians, ambassadors, and international representatives, including. Santiphab Phomvihane, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Laos; Lila Kumari Bhandari, Chairperson of Nepal’s National Assembly; Wasantha Samarasinghe, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development of Sri Lanka; Ismail Rifau, State Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Maldives; Manothong Vongsay, Vice Minister of Industry and Commerce of Laos; Minn Minn, Deputy Minister of Commerce of Myanmar; and Arun Hemachandra, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment of Sri Lanka.
On the sidelines of the banquet, President Dhakal held productive discussions with Governor Wang Yubo on strengthening economic cooperation between South Asia and Yunnan Province. The discussions focused on enhancing regional connectivity, trade facilitation, investment promotion, tourism development, digital transformation, logistics cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.
President Dhakal highlighted the pivotal role of SAARC CCI as the apex regional private-sector body of South Asia and emphasized the importance of deeper engagement between the business communities of South Asia and Yunnan Province.
Both sides explored opportunities to promote business partnerships, encourage joint ventures, facilitate cross-border commerce, and strengthen collaboration in key sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, renewable energy, manufacturing, tourism, and emerging digital industries.
President Dhakal expressed his appreciation to the Government of Yunnan Province for its warm hospitality and for creating a platform that brought together senior policymakers, diplomats, and business leaders from across the region.
Governor Wang Yubo welcomed enhanced cooperation with South Asian countries and expressed Yunnan Province’s readiness to expand engagement through trade, investment, connectivity initiatives, and cultural exchanges.
The meeting and reception underscored a shared commitment to advancing regional economic cooperation, strengthening business connectivity, and creating new opportunities for sustainable growth and prosperity across South Asia and China.
