Record-breaking Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage has officially partnered with Uswatte Biscuits Private Limited for sponsorship.
A special ceremony honouring the athlete took place on June 22 at the Veera Reception Hall in Kananthudawa.
Family members, relatives, friends, local residents, sports officials, and community leaders attended this emotional celebration held in the athlete’s hometown.
Pathirage’s recent competitive season marked unprecedented milestones in Sri Lankan athletics history.
During the 2026 Rome Diamond League, he set a new Sri Lankan record with a throw of 92.62 meters, which also stood as the best performance globally that year.
This achievement propelled him to eighth place among the world’s best javelin throwers in history.
Furthermore, his winning performance at the Doha Diamond League recently elevated him to second place in the world rankings.
In recognition of these historic international victories, Uswatte Biscuits awarded Pathirage a cash prize of 2.5 million rupees.
His coach, Tony Prasanna, received a cash award of 500,000 rupees for his contribution to the athlete’s success.
