By the close of play on day four of the second Test between visiting India and Sri Lanka at the SSC Ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka, playing their second innings, reached 229 for six, holding a 16-run lead over India's first innings.
India declared their first innings at 503 for nine, in reply to which Sri Lanka were restricted to 290 in their first innings.
Beginning their second innings under the follow-on after trailing by 213 runs, Pasindu Sooriyabandara and Kamindu Mendis produced two brilliant, fighting innings for Sri Lanka.
Pasindu Sooriyabandara scored 92 runs, while Kamindu Mendis contributed 55 runs.
