Mirigama & Kurunegala sections of the Central Expressway opens to the public (Video)

The Athugalpura entrance of the second phase of the Central Expressway to Mirigama and Kurunegala was declared open to the public today (15).

It is headed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The President, the Prime Minister, and other Ministers who inaugurated the Expressway are currently traveling along the Expressway from Mirigama to Kurunegala.

Entrances to this section have been constructed at Mirigama, Nakalagamuwa, Dambokka, Kurunegala and Yaggapitiya.

The distance of the second phase of the Central Expressway to Mirigama and Kurunegala is approximately 41 km.

Built to minimize environmental and social impacts, this expressway has been constructed across vacant lands, bypassing urban areas.

The four-lane section from Mirigama to Kurunegala has been identified as the most beautiful section of the expressway in Sri Lanka.

The media unit of the Ministry of Highways stated that this road was constructed by local contractors using local funds.

An amount of Rs.149 billion has been spent on the construction of the expressway.
