Aruni Wijewardane has been appointed as the secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Aruni Wijewardene is a diplomat who also served as a former ambassador of Sri Lanka to Austria from 2005 to 2007.
Her diplomatic postings include Geneva, as well as in Malaysia and the Philippines, in the rank of Deputy High Commissioner and Deputy Chief of Mission. She has held several senior posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Director-General of the United Nations Division.
She was a (former) member of the UNSG’s Panel of Government Experts on Verification.
She holds an M.Phil degree from the University of Cambridge, UK (Chevening Scholar) and a master’s degree in International Relations, University of Colombo.
