Titanic's iconic bow shows signs of decay in new expedition

The Titanic's wreck, once instantly recognizable by its bow looming out of the Atlantic depths, has shown significant signs of decay, as revealed by a new expedition. This summer, underwater robots conducted a series of dives, discovering that a large section of the ship's famous railing, immortalized by Jack and Rose in the 1997 movie, now lies on the sea floor.

The expedition's images highlight the ongoing changes in the wreck after more than a century beneath the waves. The Titanic sank in April 1912 after hitting an iceberg, leading to the tragic loss of 1,500 lives.

Tomasina Ray, director of collections at RMS Titanic Inc., the company behind the expedition, noted the impact of the wreck's deterioration: "The bow of Titanic is just iconic...and it doesn't look like that any more," she said. The loss of the railing is a stark reminder of the daily deterioration of the wreck. While many wonder how long the Titanic will remain intact, Ray emphasized that the decay is being monitored in real time, though the ship's future remains uncertain.
