Mahinda Rajapaksa meets Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Susil Premajayantha

Two former general secretaries of prominent political parties met with former President and leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Mahinda Rajapaksa, to discuss the urgent need for a unified opposition alliance.

The meeting took place at the Carlton Residence in Tangalle on September 24, lasting for nearly two hours, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The visitors were Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, former General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and current leader of the Podujana Eksath Peramuna and Susil Premajayantha, former General Secretary of the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and member of the Podujana Eksath Peramuna.

During the discussion, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Susil Premajayantha strongly urged Mahinda Rajapaksa to take the lead in consolidating fragmented sections of the opposition to build a broad alliance.

They stressed the necessity of uniting the opposition, particularly bringing together splintered factions of the SLPP, and requested Rajapaksa to use his vast experience to guide this process.

They insisted that forming a strong opposition for the country's sake must be done immediately.

In response, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa reportedly welcomed the proposal, stating that it was a good idea and that he was prepared to contribute to the effort at any time, assuring them that he is constantly observing the situation.
