Hatton-Dickoya to make meters mandotary for three wheelers

The Hatton-Dickoya Urban Council has unanimously decided to make it compulsory for all three-wheelers within the municipal limits to install meters. This decision was taken during the last general council meeting with the agreement of both ruling and opposition parties, following complaints that three-wheelers were charging excessive fares.

The Chairperson of the Hatton-Dickoya Urban Council, stated that this decision was a constructive solution to the problem where three-wheelers continue to charge the high fares implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, causing significant distress to the public. Therefore, installing meters in all three-wheelers used for hire will be mandatory starting next month.

When questioned about the decision, three-wheeler drivers said they agree to the council's proposal to install meters, provided that a fair fare structure is determined that accounts for the steep, mountainous, and deteriorated roads in the Hatton-Dickoya area.

They also requested that attention be paid to the rapid increase in the cost of spare parts and the severe damage caused to vehicles when traveling on such damaged roads, and that a fair price be set considering these factors.
