The state of emergency will remain in effect for another month following a majority vote of 104 during today’s parliamentary session.
The motion received 106 votes in favour and only 02 against.
Jaffna District MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam called for the division to be held.
During the vote, Opposition Chief Whip Gayantha Karunathilleka requested the Speaker to record the opposition's formal objection to the extension.
Following this declaration, members of the opposition abstained from voting and walked out of the chambers.
