Intermittent showers are expected in the Central and Uva provinces, as well as the Ampara, Batticaloa, and Hambantota districts, according to a statement issued by the Department of Meteorology.
The department notes that some areas within the Uva and Central provinces, along with the Ampara and Batticaloa districts, may experience fairly heavy falls of about 50 mm. A few rounds of showers are also likely in the Northern and North-Central provinces and the Trincomalee district.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other regions after 1:00 PM. Fairly heavy rainfall of about 75 mm is predicted for certain locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts.
Misty conditions may prevail during the early morning in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, and the Galle and Matara districts.
The department urges the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
