Sri Lankan police arrest fugitives deported from India over drug trafficking case

Officers at Katunayake Airport apprehend two men suspected of aiding a large-scale narcotics operation following their deportation from India.

The suspects, aged 23 and 57, fled to India by sea after a January police raid in Ganemulla uncovered over four kilograms of cocaine and thousands of illicit tablets.

Indian security forces detained the pair on the 24^th for illegal entry before returning them to Sri Lankan custody yesterday.

Investigations link the men to a previously arrested female suspect as her husband and son.

The Criminal Investigation Department now holds both individuals for further questioning by the Western Province North Crimes Division.
