The counting of votes for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election is set to take place today (May 4), following the polling held on the 23rd of last month (April).
The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used across all 234 constituencies have been kept under heavy security at 62 counting centers across the state. Amidst high anticipation regarding who will form the next government and what the people's verdict will be, Indian media reports that the counting process begins today.
The election witnessed a four-way contest between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, Naam Tamilar Katchi, and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
Security has been tightened with 18,000 police personnel stationed at counting centers alone, supported by over 40 companies of paramilitary forces.
The process will commence at 8:00 AM with the counting of postal ballots, followed by the counting of EVM votes at 8:30 AM. Round-wise results for all constituencies will be announced by the respective Returning Officers via public address systems at the centers.
