The security guard of a state bank in Horana, arrested on charges of aiding and abetting a money heist at the bank, was ordered to be further remanded until the 23rd of this month by Horana Chief Magistrate Lakmini Vidanagamage today.
The individual further remanded is Gayan Sudarshana, a 43-year-old resident of Bulathsinhala who served as a security guard at the same state bank. Prison officials produced him before the court today.
Presenting the progress of the investigations into the bank robbery, investigating officers stated that the first suspect arrested in connection with the incident provided two bottles of foreign liquor to the second suspect, the security guard, on two occasions before the robbery. Police further informed the court that investigations revealed these two suspects frequently conversed with each other.
However, Attorney-at-Law Roshan Dehiwala, appearing for the suspect, submitted to the court that sufficient evidence against his client had not been uncovered so far. The lawyer requested the court to summarise the evidence and release him from the case.
Considering the submissions, the Magistrate ordered the suspect to be further remanded until the 23rd. The Western Province North Intelligence and Criminal Investigation Division is conducting further investigations into the incident.
