Palm Beach Airport officially renamed after Donald Trump

The famous Palm Beach International Airport in Florida has been officially renamed the 'President Donald J. Trump International Airport' as of yesterday (09), Reuters news agency reports.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has officially changed the airport's existing three-letter international identification code from 'PBI' to 'DJT' to reflect the President's name.

However, airport authorities stated that because the change will not be fully updated across flight booking systems, tickets, and baggage tags until August 18, passengers will need to continue using the 'PBI' code until then.

The entire process of renaming and updating the system has cost $5.5 million.

The name change was approved through a special bill signed into law last March by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Notably, Trump's famous luxury resort, 'Mar-a-Lago,' is also located in this same Palm Beach area.

The first aircraft to land at the newly renamed airport during the early hours of the morning was a private plane carrying Donald Trump's son, Eric Trump, and his family.

"I certainly didn't want a UPS (cargo) plane to be the first one to land here," he laughingly told the 'Fox & Friends' channel.

While airports in the United States have previously been named after former presidents — such as the Little Rock airport being named after Bill and Hillary Clinton — it is noteworthy that its original airport code (LIT) was never changed.
