Maxtherm Lanka wins silver at national energy efficiency awards

Maxtherm Lanka (Pvt) Ltd has won the Silver Award for Best Energy Efficiency Service Provider at the National Energy Efficiency Awards 2025, organised by the Ministry of Power and Energy and the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority.

The company, led by Directors Eng. Gaya Siriwardhana and Ajantha Muhamdiram, also emerged as the top performer in the ‘Best Technology Provider’ category, where no Gold Award was presented, underscoring its strong technological capabilities and industry impact.

The recognition highlights Maxtherm Lanka’s contribution to enhancing energy efficiency across multiple industries through innovative engineering solutions.

A key initiative introduced by the company enables fossil fuel-powered boilers to be converted to biomass boilers using biofuels, delivering cost savings of up to 75%. In addition, retrofitting and efficiency improvements to existing systems have generated energy savings of up to 35%.

Over the past three years, the company has achieved measurable results through targeted technical interventions. These include energy savings equivalent to approximately 8,000 cubic metres of firewood, alongside significant efficiency gains in tea factories, where output has improved from one kilogram of tea per kilogram of firewood to two kilograms per kilogram of firewood.

Maxtherm Lanka has also facilitated the conversion of fossil fuel-based boiler systems to biofuel-powered operations, resulting in savings of around eight million litres of furnace oil and diesel. This transition has generated national cost savings estimated at $66 million over the past three years, while reducing carbon emissions by approximately 40 million kilograms of CO₂ and conserving about 140,000 units of electricity.

Founded in 2002, the company provides a range of boiler-related engineering services, including steam generation, installation, operation, maintenance, and capital solutions. It currently produces over 200,000 kilograms of biomass steam daily for a wide portfolio of industrial clients.
